Kamaole Beach 3 is the family headquarters of Kihei. Of the three Kamaole beach parks, this is the one with the giant grass lawn, the playground, the pavilions and the barbecue grills — the full Sunday-afternoon setup, with a lifeguarded beach attached. If your crew includes kids, grandparents or anyone who likes their beach day with a side of shade and a picnic table, start here.
Why families pick Kamaole Beach 3
The lawn is the whole trick. Most beaches give you sand and nothing else; Kam 3 backs its beach with a huge grassy park where kids run laps, uncles nap under trees and birthday parties stake out pavilions from early morning. When the sand gets too hot or the toddler melts down, you retreat ten steps to grass and shade and the day keeps going.
The playground seals it — the best one on the Kihei beach strip, a short barefoot walk from the water. Between playground, lawn and lifeguarded sand, this is the easiest all-ages beach day in South Maui, which is exactly why guests at our Family Favorite bungalow end up here two or three times in a week.
It gets busy, especially weekends, and that is part of the charm: local families grilling, kids everywhere, somebody's auntie holding an entire pavilion with a cooler. Come on a weekday morning if you want it mellow; come Saturday afternoon if you want Kihei at its most Kihei.
